Drivers in Virginia who are faced with a DUI charge must be aware of the various consequences they will face in the event of a conviction. There are numerous issues that can stem from being convicted on charges related to driving under the influence of alcohol. These can be made worse if there are multiple offenses alleged. Those who are dealing with this situation need to understand the importance of formulating a strong defense.

A 36-year-old man is hospitalized with serious injuries and will face charges for driving while intoxicated, after he drove against traffic and hit numerous other vehicles with a 2006 Nissan Altima. The man has already been charged with DUI, but could face other charges for multiple offenses stemming from the crash.

The incident began at approximately 3:30 p.m., when the man drove through an intersection and ignored a stop sign, hitting another car. He kept driving, going in the opposite direction of the westbound lanes of the road. He subsequently hit two more cars head-on. Both of those vehicles were being operated by females who had children as passengers. There were minor injuries.

Drunk driving charges are being treated with more seriousness in Virginia. There is a possibility of harsh fines, the loss of driving privileges, jail time and more. This can affect a person's ability to make a living and function normally.

When seeking a job or to be admitted to a secondary institution, this can be a damaging blot on one's record. While it might seem to be an impossible situation, there are times when law enforcement acted overzealously in seeking to accrue evidence.

The driver might have had a medical issue that appeared as the signs of intoxication. It is also possible that the breathalyzer tests were administered incorrectly leading to a false result. All of these factors can lay the foundation for a defense of charges of driving while intoxicated.

In this case, the alleged drunk driver was seriously hurt after numerous crashes in his vehicle. He must deal with numerous charges related to this accident, as well as his injuries. Considering everything he's up against, it is imperative that he have a sound defense by calling a qualified and experienced legal professional as soon as possible.
