There is a difference between the juvenile law system and the adult law system in Virginia and other states in the country. While many juvenile crimes might seem to be mischievous and not do any significant harm to anyone, there are times when a juvenile might face accusations of having committed certain acts that carry with them harsh punishments regardless of their age-based status. Anyone who is charged with a juvenile criminal offense must make certain that they understand the law and make plans to craft a strong defense from the time of the investigation onward.

Based on recent reports, an arrest was made of two juveniles who were suspected of taking part in seven shootings in the state of Virginia. Preliminary reports claim that two of the victims of those shootings died. Law enforcement has yet to release significant information regarding the two who were arrested. Indications are that both are 17-years-old and are being held in a juvenile detention center. No bond has been set at the time of this report.

Detectives believe that the two took part in the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman two days apart in early December. The other shootings took place in various locations between late November and December 7. Police got an anonymous tip about the alleged shooters. The investigation was independently verified as law enforcement commenced and it is said that they also found evidence linking the teens to the shootings.

Accusations related to guns are serious enough. When there is a murder charge or charges, the juvenile needs to understand what he or she is dealing with. With a crime or series of crimes that are deemed to be of sufficient severity, the juvenile might be tried in adult court. There can be a long incarceration, hefty fines and a life that is negatively affected by acts that allegedly occurred before the accused was legally an adult. With all of that under consideration, those who are arrested and charged with crimes while they are a juvenile need to make certain to lodge a strong defense with help from an experienced attorney.
