If you are facing a DUI charge, that may not be the only charge you face, depending on your past record, interaction with the police officers, and status of your license. A Virginia man faces multiple charges after allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

The man was involved in an accident on Jefferson Davis Highway, and when police arrived at the scene, they found the man to be intoxicated. Police say the man resisted the initial arrest, but police managed to put him in the police vehicle. On the way to jail, the man allegedly unbuckled himself and kicked the door. Officers say that as they attempted to re-secure him, the door opened and he kicked an officer.

The man is now facing charges for a DUI, driving on a revoked license, providing law enforcement with false identification, assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and a traffic violation. This is apparently the man's second DUI charge in five years and his license was revoked as a result of a DUI-related charge.

Many drivers who are convicted of a DUI, lose their licenses, are required to complete alcohol or substance abuse programs, and may even face jailtime, particularly if they are not first-time offenders. However, DUI arrests can easily lead to additional criminal charges, which could result in even more serious consequences.

Drivers facing multiple DUI-related charges may find it beneficial to consult with a criminal defense attorney. Your attorney can thoroughly review your case and determine which charges, if any, are legitimate. In many cases, defense attorneys discover that some, if not all, of the charges can be reduced or dropped, resulting in less serious consequences for the accused driver.
