Fairfax Man Faces Multiple Charges After Fatal Crash

In Virginia, a charge of causing a death while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs carries very severe consequences. Those who are confronted with these charges must protect themselves immediately.

A recent crash in Fairfax County led to the death of a 52-year-old woman and the driver of the other vehicle being placed under arrest. The accident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on the Capital Beltway as the driver of a 2006 Nissan Maxima rear-ended a 2013 Toyota Camry. After the impact, the Toyota spun and hit a barrier. The woman who died was a passenger in the Toyota. The driver and another passenger in the Toyota were treated at the hospital and released. A passenger in the Nissan was hospitalized, but her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

According to Virginia State Police, the driver of the Nissan got out of his vehicle and fled from the scene. The 23-year-old man was later found as he walked on a local street. He was arrested and charged with multiple offenses including intoxicated manslaughter, felony hit-and-run, driving under the influence, and driving with a suspended license.

An intoxicated manslaughter charge in Virginia can have life-changing consequences. A conviction can result in years or even decades in prison. A hit-and-run allegation can significantly enhance the penalties. A strong legal defense is essential and may result in a reduction of the charges or even an acquittal. Speaking to an experienced criminal defense attorney is the first thing that a person who is arrested for vehicular homicide should do.
