Man Charged With Embezzlement After Allegedly Stealing Money
When discussing crimes in Fairfax, the initial thought that may come to mind is a headline-blaring type of incident such as drunk driving, drug charges, violence and even murder. However, white-collar crime is also serious and can lead to hefty fines and a jail sentence. In a worst-case scenario, it can affect a business and a large number of people. One such crime is embezzlement. Those who are subject to an investigation for this act need to understand how to proceed with a defense.
A 24-year-old man who worked at a supermarket was arrested for reportedly embezzling money from the store. He allegedly took money from the cash register numerous times. According to police, his attempt at covering up the ruse was to create returns on products and pocket the money. He was charged with a felony. There is a $2,500 bond for his release.
The details of white-collar crime charges can vary. There are many ways in which a person can be charged with these crimes. While they might not believe that the charges are serious and that paying restitution will simply make it go away, it’s often not that simple. In some instances, there might be a misunderstanding or extenuating circumstances that lead to a person making this level of mistake or being accused of a crime he or she didn’t commit. Regardless, one of the keys to a fair result is a full investigation with the defendant’s situation in mind.
In this case, the man faces embezzlement charges because of the allegations that he stole from his employer. Although the charges are serious, that doesn’t automatically mean he’s guilty or should have to deal with the consequences of this for the rest of his life. People in situations like these need to craft a strong defense, perhaps with the help of a professional.
