Man Faces Drunk Driving Charges After Rescue From Burning Vehicle
The roads in Fairfax County can be dangerous for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists and motorists. One potential risk that is a constant danger is driving while intoxicated. Although there is a profoundly negative connotation with DUI/DWI charges, even those who are charged with the act have a right to a sound legal defense. In some instances, the circumstances of drunk driving charges are unusual, but this should not play into the type of defense that an accused person formulates.
A man was rescued from a burning vehicle by a vigilant law enforcement officer. When the officer arrived on the scene and saw the burning car, he did not realize there was a person inside until witnesses informed him. The car had hit a tree in the afternoon. When the officer saw the man, he showed signs of confusion and disorientation. The 38-year-old man was pulled from the vehicle. After rescuing him, the officer tested him for intoxication and arrested him.
Drunk driving charges might not seem to be all that serious when compared to other acts especially if no one was hurt, but these charges can still lead to severe consequences that can negatively affect a person’s life. There can be a license revocation, a jail sentence, hefty fines and other punishments. Those who are confronted with these charges need to understand the importance of a strong defense. There are many ways in which drunk driving charges can be called into question. For example, the breath test machine might not be properly calibrated or the field sobriety test might not have been conducted fairly. Having competent and experienced legal defense can be the difference between a conviction and acquittal.
In this incident, the man who was in the burning vehicle is undoubtedly grateful to the officer for saving his life. That, however, does not mean that he has to simply accept the fact that he was arrested for driving while intoxicated after being rescued. Given the consequences he faces for a conviction, his first call should be to a qualified legal professional experienced in defending clients facing drunk driving charges.
