Shoplifting Investigation Leads To Woman’s Arrest On Drug Charges
For those facing drug charges in Fairfax County, there are many issues that must be dealt with as the case moves forward. Not only can there be serious consequences with the legal system for drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and other reasons for an arrest linked to drugs, but they can also result in personal issues with work, school and family. One of the keys to handling drug charges is often the type of defense that is presented.
A 38-year-old woman was arrested after law enforcement officials investigated her belongings following an alleged shoplifting incident. At approximately 3:39 p.m., a worker at a hair salon contacted police to complain that a customer was seen placing store items into her purse.
An officer arrived and spoke to the customer while she was receiving a haircut. After checking her purse, the officer allegedly found the shoplifted items. In addition, drug paraphernalia, prescription drugs and what was believed to be heroin was allegedly found. The woman was placed under arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled substances under Schedule I or II and IV, as well as petit larceny.
Those who are convicted on drug charges might have to deal with fines, jail time, the requirement that they have treatment and other penalties. The level of penalties often hinge on whether the alleged perpetrator was involved in the sale or distribution of the drugs, or was simply someone who was using them. It is possible that treatment for the issue will be an option in lieu of harsher punishments for someone who is using the drugs. Many might not even be aware that it is illegal to possess certain prescription drugs.
