Most people go to the chiropractor to seek relief from back pain and other muscle and joint aches. It is expected that the chiropractor will have to touch his or her patients in various areas of their body when making adjustments to a patient’s spine. However, one chiropractor is facing criminal charges and the potential loss of his professional license after being accused of sex crimes.
A chiropractor from Virginia Beach has had his license to practice in Virginia suspended after being accused by several patients of sexual misconduct. The seven women, who vary in ages from 21-years-old to 48-years-old, accuse the chiropractor with various acts of sexual behavior during appointments, going back to 2004. Some of the women claim he touched their breasts, nipples and vaginal areas. One woman claims he pulled her hair and referred to her treatment as being “ravaged.” Another woman claims he kissed her on the lips. He is also being accused of texting one of the women suggesting “oral orgasms” and referring to erotic literature. A woman claims he touched her with his erect, exposed penis. A woman even claims they engaged in sexual acts at his office.
The Virginia Board of Medicine has suspended the man’s chiropractic license. A formal hearing on the suspension will take place April 7. Moreover, the man has also been criminally charged with sexual battery. He will face a pretrial hearing on April 24, and a criminal trial in May.
Not only have the accusations of these women led to criminal charges against this man, but his very job and livelihood are at stake. Even if he is found not guilty, his professional reputation may be irreversibly tarnished.
Charges of sex crimes are not to be taken lightly. They could have long-lasting consequences, even if the accused is ultimately found not guilty. Therefore, those who have been accused of sex offenses should make sure to wage a strong defense against the charges they face, so they are not wrongfully convicted.
