Virginia Man Arrested On Methamphetamine Charges
Because certain drugs that are illegal in Virginia can be manufactured at home or in a location specifically designed to make it, law enforcement is exhibiting greater vigilance at pursuing those who are believed to be involved in drug manufacturing. Unlike cocaine, heroin and marijuana, methamphetamine can be made by purchasing various items that are easily available. When there is an arrest, those who are charged with these types of drug offenses need to know how to put together a defense.
Recently, a man was subjected to an overnight arrest on allegations that he was manufacturing methamphetamine on his property. The suspect, who is 25-years-old, was arrested for possession and intent to distribute a Schedule I or II drug, and conspiracy to violate the Virginia Drug Control Act. Detectives had a search warrant and found items that are used to make methamphetamine in his home and in a shed behind the home. This is the third arrest related to methamphetamine that police have made in just one week.
With the way in which law enforcement and the state are trying to dissuade people from getting involved in the drug business, it is no surprise that there are intensive investigations and harsh penalties accorded to those who are convicted. In some instances, people are drug users who are caught up in a sweep and find themselves facing legal consequences when they actually are better suited to treatment programs. In others, the person could have made a mistake and gotten involved in a situation that resulted in charges for drug offenses.
One of the most important factors to achieving a satisfactory result when dealing with charges related to drugs is to have a sound legal defense. It might be possible to achieve a plea bargain to reduce the charges or to get treatment in lieu of harsher penalties. Regardless of the situation and the types of drugs involved, those who are arrested need to be cognizant of the serious consequences they can face. People in this position should also speak to an attorney with extensive experience in defending clients who have been arrested on a variety of drug offenses.
